AFD Petroleum Ltd
An industry leader reduces operational costs with TransPac Fuel software
From a modest beginning of one employee, a cell phone, and a pick-up truck, AFD has grown into an industry leader with multiple established locations supplying quality fuels and lubricants, technology, equipment and services to more than 1000 customers across Western Canada and Alaska. AFD continues to make substantial contributions in many sectors; oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, automotive, trucking, timber, agriculture, heavy industry and aviation.
Combined with the extraordinary efforts of AFD employees in the field and at numerous facilities, management has always searched for new technology to help maximize the productivity of its hard-working customer service oriented team. In order to standardize business practices, increase efficiencies, and reduce long-term costs; AFD wanted to automate the Commercial Petroleum & Retail Fuel Oil delivery vehicles and related back office administrative operations.
- Align systems and processes with overall strategic business objectives
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of operational and financial data
- Streamline processes to support business growth without proportional overhead
- Gain ability to provide customers and suppliers with key metric information
- Interface with AFD’s Accpac ERP
Developed specifically for the downstream petroleum industry, TransPac Fuel automates the paper-intensive processes that fuel delivery drivers have traditionally had to use to record quantities of product collected from the refinery or other storage facilities. It also automates the corresponding invoicing at the customer’s point of delivery. “We reviewed the TouchStar system in detail, evaluating the benefits and efficiencies it would afford AFD. We also designed a clear-cut plan as to how those competitive advantages would be implemented for the benefit of our company’s long-term growth,” said Paula Klinto, Project Leader for AFD.
TransPac Fuel totally automates the AFD ticketing process and enables vital data to be captured at the source. The data is then transmitted after every load/delivery and imported into AFD’s back office system, thereby reducing time delays from days down to minutes. Route information is also stored and updated daily, all volume and quantity calculations performed, and hand written tickets eliminated with a high-speed ticket printer incorporated.
“The system is easily mounted in our many different cab configurations,” says Dale Reimer, VP of Operations at AFD. “Both the computer and printer are clearly visible plus the FLEX computer pops out of its cradle for remote operation outside the cab. We have been pleased with the high level of professionalism demonstrated by our business partners at TouchStar, and we expect an excellent return on our investment.”
